  1. It was a dark, wet, bitterly cold night of a type ideal for the reaper to be abroad casting for potential clients.
The rain covered streets illuminated in the headlights of passing cars, the occupants cocooned in the warmth swished by drenching the huddled figure scurrying head down towards the welcoming light emanating from the bottom of the lane to provide sanctuary and escapism for the evening.
Sounds like plot for a play?
In fact it describes our critics journey to view the Ecclesfield Priory Players latest production at the EPPiC theatre.
"I`LL GET MY MAN" is a farce written by Phillip King and Produced by Ray Thompson, it is also the Players 150th full length play, illustrating not only the longevity of the society but also the regard in which they are held, for not only did our critic brave the vile elements so did the audience, with the theatre playing to a full house.
The play revolves around a T.V.heart throb seeking refuge from his overbearing fans with his uncle Arthur, a country vicar who lives with his domineering sister Harriett.
Throw in a love struck housekeeper, an advertisement by the vicar for a wife which forgets to mention marriage, a persistent fan Pixie Potter, the arrival of an uptight Bishop and we have a recipe for havoc and mayhem.
As a society the whole team pull together even if not on the stage, providing a welcome in front, and the back stage work to make the production a success.
It would be unfair to select any individual but it has to be said that Jim Kay`s rendition as a dithery, dotty, confused country vicar bounced off Gill Corteens portrayal as a sour faced Harriett.
Catch the hilarious stil cameo scene before the curtain for the interval.
One of the outstandingf features of the Players is the outstanding set design and construction.
Although the production is only for a few days you would be forgeven for thinking it was for a West End production lasting months. Credit to the construction team.
We look forward to the next production in May which is a thriller written by Richard Harris entitled "Dead Guilty" produced by Tom Travis.
